1. Thailand: beaches and islands at their best
November to April is the dry season in Phuket and Krabi: calm seas, clear skies and around 31°. A direct flight from Riyadh takes about 7.5 hours, with visa-free entry for 60 days. Combine Bangkok for shopping with Phuket for the beach.
2. Malaysia: the easiest choice for families
A Muslim country with halal food everywhere, and variety between Kuala Lumpur, Langkawi and the highlands. Winter is warm (around 33°) with short showers. A direct flight takes about 8 hours, with visa-free entry and the digital arrival card.
3. The Maldives: the dry season starts in December
December to April is the best time for the Maldives, with February and March the driest. It suits families as much as honeymooners, with resorts offering family villas and kids' clubs. A direct flight from Riyadh takes about 6 hours, with a free visa on arrival.
4. Dubai and the UAE: close and ready
Two and a half hours from Riyadh, entry on a Saudi national ID, and mild weather from November to March for beaches and theme parks. Ideal for a short break of three to five nights.
5. Egypt: history and the Red Sea
Winter is the loveliest time for Cairo, Luxor and Aswan (around 20° by day), and Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada are warm and sunny. Many daily direct flights of about 3 hours, and no visa needed.
6. Qatar and Bahrain: a weekend away
An hour and a half by plane, or the King Fahd Causeway to Bahrain. Luxury hotels, winter events and museums, on a national ID with no arrangements needed.
7. For snow lovers: Switzerland and Austria
If the children dream of snow, winter is the season for Zermatt and Interlaken in Switzerland, and Zell am See and Kaprun in Austria. You'll need a Schengen visa, so start the process two months before you travel.
