Best time to visit Sweden
June to August is the loveliest time for Stockholm and the archipelago, with days of 21° to 24° and very long daylight.
November to March is northern lights season in Abisko and Kiruna; the Icehotel usually opens in December.
Winter in Stockholm is cold and dark (around 1° by day in January), and much harsher in the north.
Before you travel
- Sweden is almost cashless; cards are accepted nearly everywhere.
- Kiruna is about an hour and a half by air from Stockholm, or a long night train.
- Wear layers and winter boots in the north, as temperatures can fall far below zero.
