In short
- Dubai for plenty of variety: beaches, malls, theme parks and endless things to do.
- Doha for a calmer, shorter break of two or three nights, with museums and heritage markets.
- Neither needs a visa: a valid passport or national ID card is enough.
Flights and time difference
Many direct flights a day reach Dubai in about two hours, and Doha in about an hour and a half. Dubai is one hour ahead of Riyadh, and Doha is on Riyadh time. The best time for both is November to March.
Sights
Dubai has the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall, Al Fahidi and Dubai Creek. Doha has Souq Waqif, the Museum of Islamic Art, the National Museum of Qatar, Katara Cultural Village and Lusail Boulevard.
For families
Dubai offers more family activities, with Dubai Marina and JBR close to the beach and restaurants. Doha is easier and calmer, Lusail has space for families, and Meryal Waterpark is open from March to October.
Where to stay
In Dubai: Downtown for a first visit, Dubai Marina and JBR for families, Palm Jumeirah for a honeymoon, and Deira and Bur Dubai on a budget. In Doha: West Bay for luxury, Msheireb and Souq Waqif for atmosphere, The Pearl for calm, and Lusail for families. In both cities the metro links the airport with the main districts.
Can you combine them?
Yes, short flights link the two cities many times a day, so you can spend two nights in Doha and then a few days in Dubai. We'll find you the lowest available rates for your hotels in both.
