When is sakura season 2027?
In Tokyo the blossoms usually open in the last week of March and peak around the end of March and the start of April; Kyoto and Osaka follow a few days later, and Hokkaido not until about early May.
The peak in each city lasts only about a week, and the official forecasts for 2027 come out in January, so keep your plans flexible by a day or two.
The best places to see it
- Tokyo: Shinjuku Gyoen, Ueno Park, and the Chidorigafuchi moat with its boats beneath the trees.
- Mount Fuji: Lake Kawaguchi, where pink blossom meets the snowy peak.
- Kyoto: the Philosopher's Path along the canal, and Arashiyama by the river.
- Osaka: the Osaka Castle park with its thousands of trees.
- Himeji: the white castle among the blossom, about 30 minutes from Osaka by Shinkansen.

- Book flights and hotels early: it is one of the busiest seasons of the year.
- Apply for the Japan eVISA well before you travel.
- Days are mild and nights are cool, so pack a light jacket.
- Parks are crowded at weekends, so visit on weekday mornings.
