Best time to visit Kenya

July to October is the Great Migration season in the Maasai Mara, with dry, pleasant weather (around 24° by day in Nairobi).

January and February are dry and warm, and match the mid-year school break.

April and May, and November, are the rainy seasons, when reserve roads can be difficult.

Before you travel

  • Nairobi sits at about 1,800 m, so the weather is mild and nights are cool; bring a jacket.
  • Reach the Maasai Mara by light aircraft from Nairobi (about an hour) or by road (about 5 hours).
  • Apply for the eTA at least three days before travel.
  • Halal food is easy to find in Nairobi and Mombasa.
